La Bandai è stata la prima casa produttrice a cimentarsi nella realizzazione di Robot in metallo dedicati ai vecchi successi degli anni 70. Non a caso i primi personaggi ad essere realizzati sono stati i Robot Nagaiani quali Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Grendizer e Gaiking che hanno gettato le basi per l'animazione robotica. Il successo della Bandai ha spinto molte altre case produttrici ad impegnarsi su tale fronte permettendoci oggi di avere una vasta gamma di prodotti in grado di soddisfare tutti i gusti dei collezionisti.
